Honored to be keynote speaker and and join my dedicated Federated sisters who so warmly welcomed me in Chevy Chase, MD at a special event supporting the work of Patriots Point Organization that provides R&R for wounded warriors. Seen with me and Program Chair Nancy Griffin are Captain Luis Avila and his wife Claudia, a longtime member of NFRW. The Captain was severely wounded in Afghanistan during one of his many tours of duty and is being treated at Walter Reed Medical Center. Many attending the event have served our country and also have members of their families who served, and I recounted that my dear mother, who was an occupational therapist and Lt. JG in the Navy Waves during WW2, treated our returning soldiers, the wounded warriors of her time, at the Bethesda Naval Hospital. President Ann Koutsoutis of Chevy Chase presided, Captain Luis sang God Bless America thanks to years of music, speech and occupational therapy, and a talented Republican woman running for Miss America out of DC serenaded the attendees with an operatic selection.
It was my privilege to talk about the many recent successes of #NFRW during an exceptionally challenging year and our exciting plans moving forward from our front line involvement in the upcoming New Mexico special election on June 1, the gubernatorial elections in VA and NJ, and our preparations to take back the House and Senate in 2022 starting with recruitment and campaign training in the weeks ahead. We #NFRWarriors know that success is critical and the fate of our country hangs in the balance and that’s where we come in safeguarding our communities, states and nation through our support of #KeepNine, #ElectionIntegrity and other priorities.
